Loren Wood: Support the Continental Cup
The world is coming to Steamboat Springs, so it is time for Steamboat to say welcome to the world. This weekend Nordic combined athletes from 14 countries are scheduled to compete in the Continental Cup at Howelsen Hill.
This will be a historic event for two reasons:
- It will be the first time that women’s Nordic combined will be included in an international event in the United States. Women’s Nordic combined is the only event not included in the Winter Olympics along with the men’s event, so this weekend is a start for inclusion for the women.
- Nordic combined competitors from China and Korea will compete in a Continental Cup for the first time in the U.S.
Todd Wilson and the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club deserve a lot of credit for their support of women’s Nordic combined.
So, if you are from the U.S. or a different country, please do come out to the Continental Cup this weekend and cheer for your athletes.
The countries competing are France, Germany, Japan, Kazakhstan, Slovenia, USA, Austria, Canada, China, Finland, Italy, Korea, Norway and Russia.
The schedule for the Continental Cup this weekend is as follows: Dec. 14, HS75 ski jump at 12:15 p.m., women’s cross country at 6 p.m. and men’s cross country at 6:30 p.m.; and Dec. 15, HS75 ski jump at 11 a.m., women’s cross country at 6 p.m. and men’s cross country at 6:30 p.m.
Hope you can make this historic event.
