Loren Wood: Time for true cultural exchange
To the many talented middle school and high school dancers, musicians, singers and actors in Steamboat Springs and Routt County, your help is needed. To the parents and teachers of these students and to the Tread of Pioneers Museum, your help is also needed.
On Sunday, May 6, the Pilot and Today presented a great idea in it’s “Our View” section — that idea basically said Steamboat Springs and Routt County need to create a true cultural exchange with the Ute people of Fort Duchesne, Utah. The time has come to say “thank you” to the young Ute powwow performers for their performance recently, and in the past, in Steamboat Springs.
Just as the Ute Youth Leadership Coalition of Fort Duchesne, Utah, has created a very professional powwow performance for our local enjoyment and appreciation, it is time for the young people of Steamboat Springs and Routt County to create a professional performance for the Ute people of Fort Duchesne. This performance by the youth of Steamboat Springs and Routt County would be performed before the Ute youth and community in Fort Duchesne.
A true cultural exchange would benefit the local community here and the Ute people of Fort Duchesne. The young performers from Steamboat Springs and Routt County could consider it an honor to be chosen for this performance.
So, please, Steamboat Springs and Routt County step forward and create a fitting tribute that says “thank you” to the Ute people of Fort Duchesne.
