Longtime employees promoted at Ski Corp.

— Two longtime employees of the Steamboat Ski and Resort Corp., Doug Allen and Mike DeGroff, have been named vice presidents with the company.

DeGroff recently was promoted to the position of vice president of resort services. Allen was named vice president of mountain operations.

Allen has worked in the ski industry for 30 years and has been at Steamboat since 1986. DeGroff has been employed at the ski area for 26 years.

“Doug and Mike have been an integral part of the Steamboat management team and have made significant contributions to the success of the resort over the past several years,” Ski Corp. President Chris Diamond said. “In their expanded roles, I look to them to continue to provide the leadership necessary for Steamboat to deliver an industry-leading guest experience and maintain the resort’s position as one of the premier ski resorts in the country.”

Allen will be responsible for all mountain operations in his new capacity. The departments he will oversee include lift operations, lift maintenance, ski patrol, snowmaking, slope maintenance, trail grooming, snow removal and lift construction.

Allen most recently held the position of senior director of mountain operations.

DeGroff will oversee ski and snowboard rental operations, retail, base area services, security, shuttles, uniforms and food and beverage. Most recently DeGroff held the position of senior director of resort services. In addition to his responsibilities at Steamboat, DeGroff has overseen ASC’s Western Retail Operations, a role which involves working with The Canyons at Park City, Utah.

Before becoming senior director, DeGroff was the director of resort services for 16 years, special events supervisor for seven years and on the race crew for two years.

He established the resort’s safety committee and award-winning recycling program.

DeGroff co-chaired the organizing committee when Steamboat hosted women’s World Cup Alpine ski races in 1989 and 1992.

He has been active in youth sports organizations in the community, serving on the boards of the Steamboat Springs Youth Soccer Association, Steamboat Springs Youth Hockey Association and the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club.

Allen’s previous job titles at Steamboat included director of mountain operations from 1990 to 2003 and lift manager from 1986 to 1990.

Before coming to Steamboat, he worked in the lift department for Copper Mountain Resort for 14 years.

Allen was appointed by the governor to serve on the Colorado Passenger Tramway Safety Board from 1990 to 1998, holding the chairman position for the last three years of his term. He serves on the National Tramway Standards Board.
