Lomas chosen to manage Steamboat Grand Resort

Longtime Steamboat hotelier Mike Lomas has been named as the vice president and general manager of the Steamboat Grand Resort Hotel and Conference Center.

He succeeds John Santaniello, who left this summer to take a position with the Ritz-Carlton Club.

“Mike brings a significant wealth of knowledge and experience that covers every aspect of managing resort hotel properties to the Steamboat Grand,” said Chris Diamond, president of the Steamboat Ski & Resort Corp.

“Combine his two decades of community activism with his experience at the highest levels within the hotel industry, and I believe Mike will strengthen the bond with the local community while striving to maintain the property’s high industry rankings and service levels.”

Lomas, a 23-year veteran of the hotel industry, most recently held the position of general manager of the Best Western Ptarmigan Inn here.

Lomas is a past president and board member of the Steamboat Springs Chamber Resort Association. He served as the chairman of the SSCRA Summer Marketing Committee for 12 years and was named the Businessman of the Year in 2002.

He is a member of the Steamboat Springs Arts Council, was a founding member of the Haymaker Golf Committee (1995 to 2001), taught as an adjunct professor at Colorado Mountain College in Steamboat and was an original board member of the Save Perry-Mansfield Campaign.

“I welcome the opportunities and challenges that come with managing a property such as the Steamboat Grand in a resort community that is recognized around the globe,” Lomas said. “The Steamboat Grand is a first-class facility with a very talented and dedicated staff, which has achieved much during the hotel’s first few years of operation. I expect to build upon the staff’s strong attributes and continue to establish the Grand as one of the premier hotels in the Rocky Mountains.”

While at the helm of the Ptarmigan Inn for 22 years, he served as a board member for the Executive Marketing Advisory Committee of Best Western International as well as governor of Best Western International. During his tenure with the Ptarmigan, Lomas also owned the Sky Valley Lodge and Alpiner Lodge for 12 years. He started Steamboat Lodging Inc., which oversaw all aspects of the Ptarmigan, Sky Valley Lodge, Alpine Lodge, Timbers Condominiums and the Steamboat Log Cabins. Before the Ptarmigan, Lomas held the general manager position with the Ramada Inn in Steamboat.

Lomas and his wife of 21 years, Jan, owner of the Steamboat Artisans’ Market, and their two children, Alex (a sophomore at the University of Denver) and Janessa (a junior at Steamboat Springs High School), have called Steamboat Springs home for more than two decades. He will start at the Steamboat Grand on Sept. 13 and report directly to Diamond.
