Locals show well at Utah triathlon

— Heather Gollnick led the way for a group of Steamboat Springs racers Saturday in the Dino Tri triathlon in Vernal, Utah.

Gollnick easily won the women’s race, finishing the Olympic-distance triathlon in 2 hours, 27 minutes and 25.9 seconds, eight minutes faster than her nearest competitor.

Many of the athletes Gollnick coaches in Steamboat through her Ironedge triathlon team also placed well.

Andrea Wilhelm, fresh off winning the Steamboat Marathon a week ago, was third in the women’s race, in 2:44:49.7. Julia McFadden was fourth, in 2:47:51.9, Robyn Jankoski seventh in 2:53:57.5, Tasha Thrasher eighth in 2:54:01.6 and Jaimie Zelkin 11th in 3:03:35.5.

Mike Schlichtman posted the best result on the men’s side, finishing third overall in the Olympic-distance tri, in 2:31:44.4.

In the sprint distance event, Dan Hohs was third in the men’s race, at 1:15:13.4.
