— More than 10 local lacrosse players competed in the Warrior Vail Colorado Lacrosse Tournament last week.

The tournament attracted some of the top select teams from across the country.

Jasper Gantick, Gus Worden, Tyler Samlowski and Andrew White competed on the Mountain All-Star team in the U-17 division. Tyler Saxe, Aleck Gantick and Jace Worden played for a Colorado Springs team in the U-15 division, and Logan Banning, Trent Trask, Christian Ramirez, Andrew Farney and Peter White competed for a Western Slope All-Star team in the U-13 division.

“The competition is insane,” Jasper Gantick said. “You put yourself up against some of the best kids in the nation. I think this helped put Western Slope lacrosse on the map.”

The U-17 team was comprised of players from Summit, Aspen, Battle Mountain, Glenwood Springs and Grand Valley. With that, the local players on the U-17 team – all who will play for the high school next year – saw the top players that will make up the high school Mountain League next year.

“We’re definitely a contender,” Gantick said. “It will be between us and Summit in my mind.”

Although none of the teams did exceptionally well, the tournament showcases some of the best young talent the nation has to offer.

Teams came from all across the country, including lacrosse-rich Maryland.

“We’re not very far away at all,” Gantick said. “We pretty much hung with every team we played. Plus, we had only one practice.”

Most of the teams at the tournament were select all-star teams. For instance, the U-17 team’s one win came against Team Idaho.

“The best part was definitely the exposure to the best kids from all over the country,” Gantick said. “You see the level it takes to get to the next level.”
