Locals can aid in relief effort

— Since the terrorist attack on the United States, Steamboat Springs residents have looked for ways they can become involved in relief efforts. Below is a listing of events, fund-raisers and charitable organizations related to the recovery effort:

COMMUNITY GATHERING The Yampa Valley Community Foundation will host a “Community Gathering of Compassion and Hope” from 6 to 7 p.m. Oct. 11 on the Routt County Courthouse lawn. Also, the foundation has established a relief fund to assist victims of the attacks was well as local safety providers, including police and firefighters.

UNITED WAY The United Way’s September 11 Fund seeks cash donations to help victims of the terrorist attacks. Donations may be sent to: The United Way, 2 Park Avenue, New York, NY, 10016 or call (800) 710-8002. Also, in-kind service donations are being accepted. Please call (800) helpnow.

CONCERT Jo Lauter is organizing a God Bless America concert for Nov. 23. Singers and musicians are needed. To participate, call Lauter at 879-7106.

INSPIRATIONAL MATERIALS The Unity Spiritual Movement of Steamboat Springs and Bud Werner Memorial Library are collecting inspirational materials (book, magazines, poems, cards, etc.) to go to the families of the victims and rescue workers in New York. Materials may be dropped off in the library lobby until Oct. 10. Materials will be packaged and sent by Oct. 11 one month after the event. Any questions can be directed to Sherry Benson at 871-6354.

RESTAURANT EFFORT On Oct. 11, participating Colorado Restaurant Association restaurants will donate at least 11 percent of that day’s proceeds to the relief effort. For information on participating restaurants, call (303) 830-2972.

TRUCK STOP During the month of October, the Truck Stop will donate $50 from each windshield replacement and $50 from each bed spraying to the relief effort.

T-SHIRTS City Market and Safeway are selling Come Together Right Now T-shirts. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the American Red Cross.

ODDS AND ENDS PostNet, 1625 Mid-Valley Drive, has patriotic pens, bumper sticks and flags for sale. All of the proceeds from the sale of those items will go to the Red Cross.

FAMILY PORTRAITS This week, Steele Images Studio in Riverside Center will donate a portion of all family portrait session fees to help victims of the terrorist attacks. For information, call the studio at 879-6213.

TAPES AND CDs All That Jazz will donate $1 for every CD, cassette and DVD sold next week to the New York City Firefighters Relief Fund.

VECTRA BANK Vectra Bank has joined with the Colorado Bankers Association to raise funds for the Red Cross. Donations are being accepted at Vectra Bank branches.

FNBR First National Bank of the Rockies has joined with the Colorado Bankers Association in organizing a relief fund. All contributions collected by FNBR will be directed to the Red Cross. Donations are being accepted at the Hayden office, 252 Jefferson Ave., and at the branch in Oak Creek. Checks may be made payable to the Colorado Relief Fund for the Victims.

ALPINE BANK Alpine Bank in Steamboat Springs is accepting cash donations to benefit the victims of the terrorist attacks. Donations may be made at the bank branch, 1901 Pine Grove Road, Steamboat Springs, 80477.
