Local Squirts win Kingdom Kup in Breckenridge

The Steamboat Ski Haus Squirts knocked off the Arvada Hawks 7-3 April 9 to win the Kingdom Kup 2000 in Breckenridge.

Jesse Helm, Ben Von Thaden and Tim Rabbit all had two goals each in the championship game to boost the Steamboat team’s lead. Tim Ascher added the other Steamboat goal in the win.

Ski Haus took an early lead in the game behind two first-period goals. The local Squirts added four more in the second period and one in the closing frame to secure the win. The Hawks netted two goals in the second period and another in the third to compete their scoring.

The victory gave Ski Haus a 3-0-1 record for the weekend. The Ski Haus team also knocked off Summit County (7-1), and the Denver University Wolverines ( 5-1) during the tournamant. Ski Haus also tied the Denver University Pioneers 2-2 on April 8.

Players netting goals in the games were Von Thaden, Patrick Clayton, Ascher, Dano Gayer, Logan Lightfoot, Helm, Jake Stanford and Tim Rabbit. Jeff Dawes was in goal most of the weekend and gave up just seven goals in four games.
