Local skiers score high in Breck half-pipe
Steamboat Springs — Steamboat’s freeskiing team got plenty of time last weekend to hone their craft, taking part in a slopestyle and half-pipe camp in Breckenridge. Afterward, those local skiers showed well in a competition, too, a United States of America Snowboard Association Rocky Mountain Series event.
Payton McElhiney was tops among local competitors, winning the skier men’s 13-15 division by inserting the flat 540 spin he’d just learned.
Willie Martin was ninth and Jack Roberts 11th in that same division.
Liam Baxter was sixth, Alex Spiegel seventh and Logan Spiegel 14th in the skier boys 10-12 division while Cael McCarthy was fourth in the skier boys 9-and-under category.
