Local golfer collects 3rd hole-in-1

Chris Curran aces hole No. 3 with 9-iron at Steamboat Golf Club in July

John F. Russell

— With one swing of his club July 21 at the Steamboat Golf Club, Chris Curran accomplished something few in his sport have.

Curran’s 9-iron shot hit on the green just to the left of the cup before rolling out of sight behind tall grass. But when Curran and the other golfers in his foursome arrived at the green, the ball was nowhere to be seen.

“I knew it was going to be tight,” Curran said.

The ball had rolled into the hole, putting Curran in an elite group of golfers who can brag that they have had a hole-in-one. It was Curran’s third hole-in-one in 19 years of golfing.

Curran said he got his first June 4, 2001, on the No. 8 hole of a course in Glenwood Springs. He scored another at the Tiara Rado golf course in Grand Junction about a year later, on June 1, 2002. His latest came during men’s day July 21 at the Steamboat Golf Club on the par-three No. 3.
