Little Leaguers 1-1 in tourney

Steamboat Springs plays at 5 p.m. today in Breckenridge

The Steamboat Springs Dis—-t–rict 3 baseball team lost Monday, but it still has a chance to advance out of the double-elimination tournament.

Eagle-Vail defeated Steam–boat, 15-10, in Brecken–ridge to remain unbeaten in tournament play.

Steamboat drops to 1-1 and plays an elimination game at 5 p.m. today in Breckenridge versus the winner of the Summit County versus Grand County game.

Steamboat coach Stace Toye is optimistic that the 9- and 10-year-old boys will fight their way back into the championship game later this week.

If Steamboat advances, it likely will have a rematch against Eagle-Vail.

“It was a one-run game going into the last inning,” Toye said. “They got a few hits, and then they shut us down. We still move on.”

Steamboat opened the Dist–rict 3 tournament with a first-round bye. The day lay-off didn’t hurt Steamboat, which came back in the second-round to defeat Skyline, 21-0, during the weekend.

Connor O’Brien pitched the shutout, and all 13 players had at least one hit.

“Connor was a man possessed,” Toye said. “He had the pitching game of his life.”

Steamboat’s roster is: Kayden Peterson, Koby Bishop, Cutter Pasternak, Connor O’Brien, Matthew Regan, Ryan Jeep, Carter Kounovsky, Charles Toye, Jake Teuton, Camden Lawhead, Jesse Pugh, Spencer Petersen and Daniel Lapointe.

The coaches are Toye, Tim Bishop, Frank Lawhead and Craig Pasternak.
