Lisa Fusco: Small town, big fun
October 25, 2005
A recent visit to the small community of Oak Creek provided proof that good, old-fashioned fun and hospitality live on in America.
The very involved citizens of Oak Creek (including the town’s mayor) went to great lengths to present a three-day, fun-filled celebration for Labor Day; they were successful.
Bartender races down Main Street, live bands in the park, bed races in the middle of town and a gong show of local talent provided many good laughs; good times for happy memories.
Oak Creek’s hidden hot spot for dining, the Black Mountain Tavern, gets kudos and super karma points for a pasta sauce that is just like “grandma used to make.” If your hunger is screaming pasta, visit the tavern for a plate of Chef Dan Bubenheim’s marinara over spaghetti. Your stomach will thank you, I know mine did. Thanks, Dan.
Oak Creek, you showed me a good time, I’ll be back.
