Linda Pendexter: Bullying, sharing not the same
Bullying little kids and sharing are not one and the same.
On Sunday, July 24, I was at the little beach at Burgess Creek with my daughter and grandson, 21 month-old Henry, visiting from Portland, Oregon. While Henry was playing with his toys, a boy several years older, took his dump truck and walked away.
I am a former kindergarden teacher and feel very comfortable talking to children about appropriate behavior. I told the boy he could play with Henry but not take his toys away — very reasonable to me, but it seemed to create animosity among parents.
Are you not paying attention? Did you think we were being selfish and not realize that your child was totally out of line?
Portland is one of the most sharing, caring cities in the country, we get it, but you made us feel as though we were the most unreasonable, selfish people ever.
As the morning progressed, one of the kids actually took one of Henry’s trucks and left with it. Great job parents, not paying attention to what your kids leave with, but by that time, we had had it with you all and let it go.
I have had a condo in Steamboat for 18 years and have loved our dealings both winter and summer with everyone. This people, was out of line.
