Library hosting ‘Faces of October 7’ program on Sunday
The Har Mishpacha Jewish Congregation of Steamboat Springs, in partnership with Heart of Steamboat United Methodist Church, STAND (Steamboat Team to Disrupt Antisemitism and Discrimination), Steamboat Radio, and Chabad of Steamboat Springs, is inviting the community to an evening of witness, reflection and solidarity.
The “Faces of October 7” program will feature the testimony of Irene, a Jewish Israeli survivor of the tragic attack on Oct. 7, 2023, offering a personal glimpse into her harrowing experience and the healing journey that continues.
This special gathering will take place 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at Library Hall in the Bud Werner Memorial Library. It is an opportunity to hear firsthand the story of survival, love and perseverance, as well as to engage in a collective discussion on how to support those affected by trauma while working toward ending violence and hate.
Irene’s story centers on her life in Kfar Aza, a peaceful Israeli community where she lived with her fiancé, Netta, prior to the attack. On Oct. 7, Irene found herself hiding in her bedroom, caught in the midst of a violent assault on one of the most heavily affected streets.
The event’s primary purpose is to come together in solidarity to witness the impact of violence on individuals, and to reflect on how to collectively promote compassion and healing.
Please note that this event is not intended to take a political stance on the complex geopolitical issues of the Middle East.
This event is free and open to the public.
