Letter to the Editor: Vote no on Colorado Amendment 80
Letter to the Editor
On behalf of the Steamboat Springs Education Association, representing educators and staff in the Steamboat Springs School District, we urge our community to vote no on Colorado Amendment 80. This dangerous amendment threatens the future of public education in Colorado by giving the state legislature the power to dismantle our public schools and redirect essential funding elsewhere.
Special interest groups in support of the amendment have been intentionally trying to mislead voters by sending texts and emails falsely claiming that teachers support it. Please disregard that false information. Public educators do not support this amendment.
If Amendment 80 passes, those same special interest groups will have more influence over where education dollars go, potentially diverting them from public schools to private interests. Public education is designed to serve every child fairly and equitably, and this amendment would undermine that mission, leaving students and educators without the resources they need to succeed.
The success of our students, our schools, and our community depends on maintaining a robust and well-funded public education system. We cannot allow our public schools to be undermined by legislative overreach and special interests who feel the need to lie to voters to push their agenda.
Please join us in voting no on Amendment 80 to protect the future of public education in Colorado. Thank you for your continued support of our students and our schools.
