Letter to the editor: Offering classical music 24/7

Here in Steamboat Springs, we are fortunate to have regular live performances by Strings in the Mountains, Yampa Valley Choral Society, Opera Steamboat and the Steamboat Symphony Orchestra. We also have a very special opportunity to hear classical music 24 hours per day at 91.1 FM on our radios.

This music comes from WWFM in Trenton, New Jersey. They play something for every mood or task — from Dvorak’s New World Symphony (good music for paying taxes) to Rossini’s William Tell (for running errands) to a romantic Brahms concerto or Puccini’s Madame Butterfly (to simply sit and listen — what a joy!) They also have marvelous choral programs, classical guitar and much more.

How does this musical smorgasbord get all the way to Steamboat Springs from New Jersey? West Slope FM is a small nonprofit organization that provides the equipment and expertise to snatch those beautiful sounds out of the airwaves and beam them from Storm Peak to your radio.

Our costs to maintain that equipment and pay rent for our space on the tower are significant, and we would really appreciate your help. Please send a donation of any amount to: West Slope FM, PO Box 774422, Steamboat Springs, CO 80477. If you have any questions, please contact any of our board members.
