Lesyshen arraignment rescheduled for Feb. 20 in Denver

— A new arraignment date has been set for Lisa Lesyshen, the Stagecoach woman accused of murdering her 9-year-old son, Asher Lesyshen-Kirlan.

Judge Michael O’Hara ruled Tuesday that the hearing will be held at 11 a.m. Feb. 20 at the Lindsey-Flanigan Courthouse in Denver. It originally was scheduled for Feb. 13.

Lesyshen wanted her arraignment to be held in Routt County, according to a motion filed by the Routt County Public Defender’s Office. They argued Lesyshen has a constitutional right to have the arraignment in Routt County.

Prosecutors opposed this request because it would be difficult to transfer Lesyshen from the Denver County Jail infirmary to Routt County. The prosecution also thinks it would be dangerous to transport Lesyshen, should she have a medical emergency on the way to Routt County.

Investigators said Lesyshen shot herself after shooting her son. She is paralyzed, and the prosecution has said it could be months before she is stabilized.

“The court has concluded that the best course of action is to conduct the arraignment in the locale where defendant is currently housed,” O’Hara wrote in his ruling.

At arraignments, defendants typically enter a plea, and a trial date oftentimes is set.
