Lenny Herzog: Sovereignty surrender

Lenny Herzog

There hasn't been much dispute that the White House promoted the recent passage of Colorado gun laws. The pressure included personal phone calls to our legislators from the vice president of the United States.

Soon after the passage of controversial laws affecting the ability of the people of Colorado to defend themselves against enemies foreign and domestic, Senate Bill 13-013 was passed.

The official summary: The bill gives a special agent, uniform division officer, physical security technician, physical security specialist or special officer of the United States Secret Service limited peace officer authority while working in Colorado.

I don't know who those people are, but I am guessing that they will supplant the good people of the state of Colorado from the need to protect themselves from enemies foreign and domestic.

Now I see a full-page advertisement courting our Rep. Diane Mitsch Bush into voting once again for a law that surrenders our sovereignty, both individually and collectively.

The Interwest Energy Alliance is a lobbying organization funded by a conglomerate of large to multinational corporations. The organization employs professional lobbyists to influence our representatives into voting for "laws" that promote the business of their contributors, like General Electric.

Fundamentally, there is nothing wrong with trade groups promoting their interests. Masquerading as job creators while trying to create laws that mandate an unfair advantage for them over existing businesses is, in my opinion, corrupt. If their business is so good, why is it that they need a law for us to buy their product? I guess it is because it will cost us more money and we wouldn't buy it unless law forces us to.

The recent trend that has gathered momentum seems to be that our representatives have been selling us to the wolves, foreign, not domestic. Diane, can you see how big grandma's nose is and how big her teeth are?
