Labor Day planning under way in Oak Creek

Oak Creek committee to ask for town approval at meeting

If you go

What: Oak Creek Town Board meeting

When: 7 p.m. today

Where: Oak Creek Town Hall

Agenda: Reports regarding the town audit, the ice rink retaining wall, Sierra View park design plans and the water tank project. There will also be a liquor license hearing for Bonfiglio Drug and Liquor and a hearing for a special event permit for the Oak Creek Labor Day committee.

— The Oak Creek Labor Day Committee is fundraising and seeking approval for a beer garden this year as it goes before the Oak Creek Town Board at tonight’s meeting.

The committee has to ask for permission to use the town’s Decker Park and for the one-day permit required to have beer on the premises during a hearing at the meeting at 7 tonight.

Committee Vice President Sandy Wisecup said many of the popular activities from previous years are returning, including the inflatable bouncy toys for children and the egg toss competition.

The committee members also plan to again have an auction and comedy show during the Labor Day weekend, which ends with the holiday Sept. 6.

Wisecup said it costs about $3,000 to $4,000 to put on the event, and the committee already is starting with money left over from last year.

Committee members are seeking donations to cover the rest of expenses, and Wisecup said they might ask for a cash donation from the Town Board during tonight’s meeting, as well.

Oak Creek Town Clerk Karen Halterman said the town typically donates the use of the park, the electricity and use of the streets, and the town insurance would cover the event because it does not have its own insurance.

She said committee members were welcome to request more funds during the hearing.
