Kidd lays down 2 more good performances

Joel Reichenberger

— Serina Kidd’s maintained momentum to her strong start to the season Saturday and Sunday, the 17-year-old Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club athlete logging two strong results at College Spectacular FIS U races in Loveland.

She was first among U18 skiers Saturday in a slalom event, then made the U18 podium again Sunday with a third-place showing in the GS.

Kidd, a junior at Steamboat Springs High School, was 15th overall Saturday in the slalom, competing mostly against college skiers. She was more than two seconds faster than any other U18 competitor.

A day later, she was 28th overall in the GS.

“I just tried to have a positive mental attitude and go out and give it my best since it was an older group of girls I was competing against,” she said.

That feeling of competing against older, more experienced skiers can be difficult, she said, but it’s something she hopes to grow into.

“It’s definitely harder, but I have to get used to it because hopefully I’ll be at that level,” she said.
