Kate Nowak: $20K Day 2015 best yet

On behalf of the Routt County United Way staff and the board of directors, I would like to thank our community for making our September 2015 $20K Day our best ever.

Each year, Routt County United Way strives to raise $20,000 on one September day to kick off our fall campaign. This year, the generosity of the Routt County community far exceeded this goal — indeed, surpassed it by more than double.

The total amount donated amounted to $53,479.26. We are incredibly grateful for this heartwarming response and generosity from Routt County residents.

This strong start is encouraging, as we have a total campaign fundraising goal of $525,000 to support important programs that help community members of all ages lead healthy lives, have access to strong early education and gain financial stability. This goal will by no means cover all the human service needs in our county, but it does mean 25 member agencies and certain valuable programs will be able to make a positive impact in community members’ lives in 2016 and beyond.

We also want to give a special thank you to our partner, Yampa Valley Bank, and their employees, who rallied and supported us with matching donations of $13,207 this year. This is a tremendous example of philanthropic spirit that motivated and contributed to us to having the best $20K day ever.

Thank you to Fiesta Jalisco, Ciao Gelato and Brian Harvey at Steamboat Radio for assisting us in producing a fun-filled event. Thank you. We truly live united in Routt County.

Kate Nowak

Executive director, Routt County United Way

The Routt to Adventure: Backcountry skiing at Bluebird

I have been skiing about 15 years now, learning to Nordic ski in gym class in elementary school and grew up Alpine skiing at Okemo Mountain in my home state of Vermont. I’m by no means a daredevil but I am comfortable on Alpine skis and my ability to get around in them.
