Kat Kelly: Support Howelsen
October 29, 2008
Steamboat Springs — If we all skied Howelsen Hill one or two weekends a month this season, I think we might have a good chance of saving this historic area of our town from budget cuts.
My kids learned to ski there, and say the trails on Howelsen are better and harder than on the mountain. My youngest even stated that the blue trails at Howelsen are like the black trails on Mount Werner.
If we lose Howelsen because of the economy, to me it would be a tragedy and seem very backwards. Howelsen is closer, more affordable, and easier to get to than the mountain.
If there is a time that you don’t go to the mountain because it is a massive crowd weekend, go to Howelsen. Howelsen is also a great place to get some runs in during your lunch break.
Wouldn’t you miss the jumping events and Winter Carnival events, Winter Sports Club? Don’t forget, there are always other casualties and a huge domino effect to every casualty of financial wars. To every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.
Hope to see you all at Howelsen this season.
