Jumping only thing to slow Nordic combined team

— The Steamboat Springs’ Nordic combined skiing Fletcher bothers were again plenty fast Thursday at a World Cup in Trondheim, Norway, but jumping kept both from challenging for a top-10 finish at what was the penultimate World Cup event of the season.

Taylor Fletcher finished 14th, and Bryan Fletcher was 25th. Adam Loomis was 31st.

All three U.S. skiers made major headway in the 10-kilometer ski portion of the event.

Taylor Fletcher had the day’s fastest ski time and flew up from deep in the pack. He started in 44th place and rocketed up the ranks. He started 2 minutes, 4 seconds behind the leader and finished 1:14.5.

Bryan Fletcher skied the day’s seventh-best time, climbing from 41st to 25th to finish 1:37.9 behind the day’s winner, Norway’s Magnus Moan.

Loomis, meanwhile, went from 45th to 31st and was 2:04 back thanks to the 12th-best ski time.

The team has had good jumping this season and has had strong cross country results on a regular basis. It has struggled to put it all together week in and week out, however. It will get one final chance to do that on Saturday in Oslo, with the World Cup finale.
