Jodie Lynn Coyner, 1967-2005

Steamboat Springs resident Jodie Lynn Coyner died Oct. 22, 2005, at her home. She was 38.

Jodie Lynn Stevenson was born Jan 22, 1967, in Olney, Ill., to Jerl B. and Linda (Sifers) Stevenson. The family lived in Flora, Ill., before moving to Albuquerque, N.M. Jodie attended school in Albuquerque and Pampa, Texas, where she graduated from high school.

Jodie attended Amarillo Community College and West Texas State University.



She married Curtis Tempel in 1987, and they entered the ranching business near Wiley. While living in Wiley, their children, Amber and Zane, were born. Also while in Wiley, Jodie attended Lamar Community College and received her associate’s degree in cosmetology. She operated a beauty shop in Lamar.

Jodie and Curtis were later divorced, and Jodie moved to Steamboat Springs, where she married Dale Vance Coyner on June 6, 1999. Jodie worked as a beautician, for the U.S. Forest Service, for F.M. Light at the Soda Creek Mercantile and most recently had been an employee in the dental office of Neil Ganz.



Jodie was a very active person, having bowled since she was 5 years old and played golf and painted since she was 8 years old. She was a semi-professional painter, enjoyed making quilts, skiing, cooking, decorating cakes and selling wedding cakes.

Jodie was always interested in learning and took classes at Colorado Mountain College.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Linda Miley; her father, Jerl Stevenson, and grandmother, Rosemary Shackelford.

She is survived by her husband, Dale Coyner, of Steamboat Springs; her daughter, Amber Jordan Tempel of Wiley; her son, Zane Logan Tempel of Wiley; her stepdaughter, Rebekah Coyner of Shallotte, N.C.; her stepson, Daniel Coyner of Steamboat Springs; her half-sister, Cheri and her husband Dale Johnson of Enid, Okla.; her nephews, Scott and Elijah Johnson of Westminster; her stepfather, Wallace Dean Miley of Point Blank, Texas; her father-in-law, Delmar; her mother-in-law, Pat Coyner of Craig; and her sister-in-law, Connie Blake of Craig.

A celebration of her life was held at 2 p.m. Oct. 29 at the Howelsen Hill Lodge in Steamboat Springs.
