James DeFrancia: Thank you Steamboat for welcoming USS Colorado crew
A very warm “thank you” to the many citizens of Steamboat Springs who so warmly welcomed the visiting crew members of the USS Colorado last week. They left with boundless praise and appreciation of how they had been received by our community, and will share that experience of our hospitality with their shipmates.
In particular, thanks to Steamboat Springs City Council for hosting them for breakfast; the North Routt County Charter school and Principal Brandon LaChance for their visit with first- through eighth-graders; to Freshie’s and owners Scott and Christy Fox for hosting them for lunch; our terrific Steamboat Middle School for their visit with sixth- and seventh-graders and Principal Heidi Chapman Hoy; the local Veterans of Foreign War/American Legion and Jim Stanko for the superb historical tour; Mountain Tap Brewery and manager Jeff Goodhand for hosting them for dinner; Steamboat Whiskey Co.; and owners Nathan and Jessica Newhall for their after-dinner drinks; the Steamboat Springs Chamber and CEO Kara Stoller for hosting breakfast for the Navy visitors; and Jeff at Powder Day Donuts who so graciously offered his wares as a gift to see that they were well fed on the drive back to the Denver airport.
And thanks, too, to Steamboat Pilot & Today reporter Eleanor Hasenbeck for her patience in following the crew around town and covering the visit.
To our community, please accept a “BZ” — that is the Navy flag signal for “well done.”
