James De Francia: See how your 401K looks after the trade wars

Robert Nestora, in his letter published on July 11, suggests we look at the value increase in our 401Ks since Trump took office and see how fortunate we are, presumably due to the leadership of the White House occupant.

Mr. Nestora might also, then, use the same value measurement from January 2009 to the end of the Obama term in January 2017 —  a gain in the Dow Jones of nearly 250 percent, which continued into the current administration. My guess is that he was whining the whole time.

But the core issue is that any action by any president impacts the economy only after a time lag. So, let’s see how our 401Ks look in a year or so, after the emerging trade war initiated by the current office holder.
