INS detains 15 Mexicans

Michelle Bales

— Fifteen undocumented Mexican nationals were detained at the Routt County Jail Wednesday after the driver of the van they were in fled from a minor accident on Rabbit Ears Pass.

INS agent Catherine Malapanes said the 14 men and one 16-year-old boy chose to go back to Mexico after being given the option of speaking to an immigration judge in Denver.

The Routt County Sheriff’s office and the Colorado State Patrol responded to the hit-and-run accident on Rabbit Ears Pass at 5 p.m. Wednesday.
