In the Gutter to play gig

Jennie Lay

During the Battle of the Bands in May, seven high school bands from Steamboat Springs and Craig rocked the Steamboat Grand Ballroom with mohawks, mosh pits and lots of hard-driving music. They were vying for the grand prize of a one-night gig at Mahogany Ridge Brewery and Grill.

In the Gutter, the self-described all-girl “alternative punk–more alternative” band from Craig, reigned that night.

Bandmembers Jenna Stiefel, Camillia Bird and Jojo La spent five months practicing in Stiefel’s bedroom before the Battle of the Bands. In the Gutter won the May 22 battle by 1.5 points, with Bird belting out the band’s original songs for a crowd of more than 350 fans.

At 8:30 p.m. Monday, In the Gutter will play its own all-ages show at Mahogany Ridge.

The root beer will be flowing, because Battle of the Bands is part of the city of Steamboat Springs teen program’s efforts to provide safe, affordable alcohol- and drug-free recreation for teenagers.
