FUNDING FOR ROOF CLEARS FIRST HURDLE

OAK CREEKThe South Routt School District received first-round approval of funding to replace Soroco High School’s roof.

The roof requires some serious upgrades, a costly project the district is hoping the state will help finance.

The State Advisory Comm-

ittee for the Energy/Mineral Impact Assistance Program Oct. 19 approved the district’s request of Energy Impact funds for replacement of the roof. The committee unanimously approved the $186,000 grant.

Its recommendation now passes to Bob Brooks, director of the Department of Local Affairs, and his staff for review.

The district should hear back from the agency within two weeks to a month, South Routt Superintendent Steve Jones said.

Routt County Commissioner Nancy Stahoviak sits on the committee but could not cast a vote.

OAK CREEKSoroco Middle School students continued their study of early pioneer life in Routt County with a visit on Thursday to the Tread of Pioneers Museum in Steamboat Springs.

The seventh-graders toured the Crawford Mansion with Jane Hill, who explained the places and events they are reading about in “The Cabin at Medicine Springs.”

They again performed some drama selections from”Peaks and Passages” at Iron Springs.
