OAK CREEKSouth Routt residents should look for future food drives around Christmas and early January to benefit the South Routt Food Bank.

A recent food drive by the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts at the Steamboat Springs City Market and Safeway helped to replenish shelves at the food bank in Oak Creek, but the need still exists, said Lisa Bohlmann, who operates the South Routt Food Bank.

A larger number of people who commute to Steamboat Springs for seasonal employment are struggling more to get by this winter, she said.

Fourteen new South Routt households have received assistance since September.

“We opened a year ago in October, and people are finally realizing we’re here,” she said.
