Howelsen Hill survey open to public after slow response rate

— The city of Steamboat Springs is hoping to get a lot more people to participate in a survey about the future of Howelsen Hill.

Last month, the city sent more than 400 residents a link to participate in the survey.

The hope was to get enough responses from the random sampling of people to make it a statistically valid survey.

Parks, Open Space and Recreational Services Department Director John Overstreet said Wednesday that the city did not receive enough responses back when the survey was set to close Tuesday.

“The response rate to make it statistically valid was too low,” he said.

To get a better idea of the public’s opinion on the future of Howelsen, the survey now is open to the entire public.

It can be accessed here.

The survey asks community members how they would like to see the park funded and to identify anything that prevents them from using the park (lack of ADA access, lack of money, etc.).

It also asks them to grade certain ideas for the park that have been mentioned by the organizations that use it.

Ideas mentioned in the survey include such things as upgrading chairlifts to provide bike access as well as updating Olympian Hall and adding concessions and storage lockers there.

Overstreet said the city plans to keep the survey up for at least another week.
