Howelsen Beach to close for improvements

The Howelsen Beach volleyball, tennis and pickleball courts will be closed beginning Tuesday, Sept. 6, as the lights surrounding them get replaced, according to a news release.
The area will be closed for the remainder of the year and reopen in spring of 2023.
Crews from Central Electric will replace the eight existing light posts with six new energy-efficient lights. The new lights match other city venues and will include “Night Sky” technology that focuses the lights on one surface rather than spreading to other areas.
Additionally, the new lights will turn on instantly rather than taking 20 minutes to “warm up.”
“We are excited to move forward with this improvement project” Recreation Manager Alexis Wolf said in the release. “This project has been planned for a decade and the upgrades will provide numerous benefits and energy savings for years to come.”
Parks and Recreation will still be putting on a fall adult volleyball league, but the three-on-three style play will take place on grass. Additional league information can be found at SteamboatSprings.net/AdultSports.
