Horn began with the department as a full-time emergency medical technician while finishing her fire science degree at Colorado Mountain College. She worked shifts at Eagle County Paramedic Services, Gypsum Fire Protection District and Greater Eagle Fire Protection District as EMT, firefighter and engineer, and she also worked for Rocky Mountain Type II Incident Management Team and is currently on the roster for many incident management teams throughout the region as a safety officer and plans section team member.

As Rock Creek’s fire chief, Horn has been a member of the Colorado State Fire Chiefs since 2009.

“I am proud of the work we do and humbled by my appointment,” Horn was quoted as saying in a news release. “I am committed to supporting legislation to improve rural fire departments and first responder families while serving the citizens of Colorado.”

Horn is married to Gary Horn, a lifelong rancher who operates Raymond Horn Ranch on the Conger Mesa with his twin brother, Dale. Gary and Brita have two daughters, Abigail and Izabel.
