Hometown astronaut Steve Swanson will be CMC commencement speaker

Hometown astronaut Steve Swanson will be at the Steamboat Grand May 2 to help launch the post-collegiate careers of Colorado Mountain College students.

Swanson, who recently returned from a six-month mission to the International Space Station, will be the keynote speaker at the Alpine Campus’ commencement in Steamboat Springs.

He will address about 100 graduates at the ceremony, including about 30 graduates receiving bachelor’s degrees.

Swanson graduated from Steamboat Springs High School in 1979. He has lived in space for 195 days, 15 hours and 41 minutes.

Prior to his most recent mission, he went on two space shuttle missions in 2007 and 2009.
