Home energy assessments available for free

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS — When the snow shovels come out, so do the checkbooks to pay for higher home energy bills. Routt and Moffat county residents can learn how to lower home energy bills and increase home comfort through a free home energy assessment.

A local certified home energy auditor can help homeowners and renters learn more about how to improve energy efficiency issues such as cold drafts, furnaces running too much, uneven heat, ice dams on roofs, open cabinet doors to keep pipes from freezing and higher-than-expected energy bills.

Customers who have service from both Yampa Valley Electric Association as well as primary home heating from Atmos Energy are eligible for a free comprehensive home energy audit and home safety check by signing up at EnergySmartColorado.com. Customers who do not have Atmos Energy for primary home heating can pay half price for the audit, or $150, or may be eligible for other funding through Yampa Valley Sustainability Council, which manages the local audit program.
