High school sports roundup for April 21

— It was a slow week of high school sports, the girls soccer team providing some of the limited action.

It still wasan important week for a heap of high school athletes, eight of whom signed to compete next season with colleges. That list included Lucy Newman, who plans to ski at University of Colorado; Madison Keeffe, who will ski at University of Vermont; Nikki Fry will play lacrosse at Fort Lewis College; Megan Stabile will play soccer at Mars Hill College in North Carolina; Skyler Kauf will play football at University of Mount Union in Ohio; Emily Coope will play hockey at Utica College in New York; Monica Patten will play hockey at Oswego State in New York; and Rachel Grubbs will play tennis at Colorado Mesa University.

Steamboat Springs girls soccer, 7-3-2, beat Glenwood Springs, 3-1, and Rifle, 8-0

What happened: Steamboat got a pair of goals from Jordan Floyd and one from Natalie Bohlmann as the team won a crucial game, 3-1, against Glenwood Springs. Steamboat had no trouble a day later in an easy win against Rifle. Floyd had two more goals in that game. Emma Wilson also had two as Gabriel Bohlmann, Natalie Bohlmann and Savannah Bauknecht all also scored.

What does it mean: The situation at spring break looks pretty good for the Sailors as they're in great position to land in the four-team Western Slope championship tournament at the end of this month.

What's next: Steamboat has the week off before a April 29 trip to play at Summit, which Steamboat beat 4-0 to open the season.
