High school ski team meets

The high school ski team will hold an informative meeting at noon Monday at the high school gym.

Head coach Chris Arnis said anyone interested in joining this year’s high school team should attend the meeting.

The Steamboat team includes both alpine and nordic squads and will compete in close to five meets from December through February.

Arnis said the team is always recruiting new skiers in both disciplines. He wants to see more girls come out for this year’s team and more nordic skiers.

The team is a varsity sport and competes in a full schedule of events. Alpine skiers compete in slalom and giant slalom events. Nordic skiers will compete in classic and freestyle races.

The team will begin practice on Wednesday, Nov. 15, at Howelsen Hill. If the mountain is open to the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club, the high school team will begin practicing.

“I would encourage anyone interested in participating to come to the meeting,” Arnis said. “We want to expose more kids to our program this season.”
