Health briefs: Precautions advised during tick season

Northwest Colorado Health advises precautions against ticks and tick-borne diseases during spring and summer months.
Tick bites in Colorado can result in Colorado tick fever, Rocky Mountain spotted fever and tick-borne relapsing fever. Ticks should be removed from skin as soon as possible.
After removing a tick from a person or a pet, wash hands immediately. If illness occurs following a tick bite or exposure to ticks, seek prompt medical attention.
Ticks are commonly found in wooded or brushy areas with tall grass. They may also inhabit rustic mountain cabins where chipmunks and other rodents may have visited.
Wear protective clothing, such as long-sleeved shirts and long pants, and do thorough tick checks after being in areas where ticks may be present.

Beginning Tai Chi class for older adults begins May 9
Northwest Colorado Health's Aging Well program will host a new beginning Tai Chi class for older adults from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. Tuesdays beginning May 9 and continuing through Oct. 10 at the Steamboat Springs Community Center.
There is a suggested donation of $3 per class.
