Hayden volleyball sick about loss

— Hayden was exactly where it wanted to be entering the final day of the district tournament having won both of its Friday matches. The Tigers couldn’t get past Rangely, however, and their season ended short of the semifinals.

A sudden sickness left Hayden coach Greg Johnson and senior Holli Salazar crippled for the morning match against Rangely, which concluded the tournament’s round robin pool play. The Tigers lost that, falling 25-20, 15-25, 27-25, 25-23.

Hayden then had to face Rangely again, this time in a one-game playoff to break a tie and earn a spot in the semifinals.

Johnson said the game was close until Rangely pulled away at the end, winning, 25-20, to earn the right to advance.

“It was within one point the whole time until they pulled away,” Johnson said. “They played great defense and picked up a lot of our hits.”
