Hayden track nets high finishes at Rangely

Joel Reichenberger

The Hayden High School girls track team finished third at a meet at Rangely on Friday, led by a series of top finishes in distance running events.

Laura Johnson helped in that effort, winning the 1,600-meter run in 6 minutes, 16.31 seconds. Savannah Williams then won the 3,200 meters, finishing in 12:55.70.

Hayden got two more winning performances in relay events. Emma Johnson, Laura Johnson, Kara Cozzens and Jewel Vreeman combined to win the 400-meter relay in 59.26 seconds. Emma Johnson, Becca Hoza, Vreeman and Williams also won the 800 sprint medley relay in 2:07.57.

“The spring medley continued to improve on their time and really looked smooth in the exchanges,” Hayden coach Pat Moore said.

Jorge Valdez and Jack Redmond each won their events on the boys side. Valdez jumped 6-foot-2 to win the high jump. Redmond soared to 19-8 in the long jump to win.

The team is back in action Friday, offering fans one of their best chances to spectate with a meet at Moffat County High School in Craig.
