Hayden Town Council member stepping down

— With the departure of one of its members, the Hayden Town Council is looking to fill a vacancy.

Hayden police Chief Greg Tuliszewski, acting town manager, said Jim Folley has sold his house and plans to move to Iowa. This will make it easier for Folley to visit his children.

“He’s been a heck of an asset,” Tuliszewski said.

In addition to town council, Folley regularly attended other board meetings and helped with economic development in Hayden.

Tuliszewski said Folley had a stellar attendance record and was punctual.

“He’s just been very actively engaged,” Tuliszewski said. “We’re sorry to see him go.”

Folley was traveling Tuesday and could not be reached for comment.

Folley’s term ends in November, and his last council meeting will be April 22.

The town council has chosen to appoint a new member. Those interested in applying need to submit a letter of interest to the town by April 21.

To qualify for consideration, applicants need to have resided in Hayden for a minimum of 24 months, be at least 21 years of age and have an interest in town affairs.

The council meets at 7 p.m. on the first and third Thursdays of each month. There are also occasional special meetings.

The council will appoint the new member during its May 5 meeting.

In other town news, the search continues for a new town manager to replace David Torgler, who left in January.

The town hired an executive search firm to help recruit candidates. Tuliszewski said 38 people applied. It was a good response, and there is a good pool of candidates, Tuliszewski said.

Eight semi-finalists have been chosen. The council will narrow the list to finalists during an April 7 or April 21 board meeting.

The town hopes to have the new town manager working by the end of May or June.
