Hayden seeking election candidates

— While many Americans have Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton on their minds as November approaches, Hayden residents will also have to decide who will represent them locally.

Anyone wanting to run for Hayden Town Council has until Aug. 29 to return a petition. A candidate wanting to run for council needs to collect 25 signatures from registered Hayden voters. A person wanting to run for mayor needs to collect 30 signatures.

Four council members are up for election: Charles Forrest, Richard “Festus” Hagins, Bill Hayden and Mayor Jim Haskins.

Hagins and Hayden have not yet decided whether to run for re-election.

Haskins and Forrest will run for re-election.

Haskins has said he wants to serve another term as mayor, because he wants to help the town find a new manager. He also wants to help the town manager transition to the new job.

Forrest was appointed in May to fill a vacancy on the council.

Beginning Tuesday, those interested in running for council can pick up a petition from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 8 a.m. to noon on Fridays at Town Hall.

Those wanting more information can call Town Hall at 970-276-3741.

The election is Nov. 8.
