Hayden, Routt commit centennial funds

The Hayden Town Board and Routt County commissioners have stepped up to the plate to support activities planned for Hayden’s centennial next year.

The Town Board last week agreed to the centennial committee’s request for $5,000, and Routt County commissioners committed to a $2,500 donation Tuesday.

“I think this is a great thing,” commissioner Nancy Stahoviak said. “These small communities need to be recognized for what they’ve done all these years.”

The centennial committee, made up representatives from throughout Hayden, have planned a list of activities, including a dance and fireworks, golf tournament, historical tours and birthday bash celebrating 100 years of incorporation as a town.

Events will take place on Hayden’s official birthday, March 9, and during different occasions throughout the year.

Committee members have been presenting the schedule and themes to large and small businesses that employ Hayden residents and have other connections to the town, chairwoman Lorraine Johnson said.

Depending on donation amounts, sponsors will have their names attached to posters, fliers, newspaper and radio announcements, banners and other advertising.

The committee is hoping for commitments totaling $30,000 to $35,000 by Dec. 15.

So far, at least five businesses have said they will donate $500 or more, Johnson said.

In addition to funds, many residents have contributed ideas and pledged their help with activities.

“The one thing I’m seeing is it’s bringing citizens of Hayden together to do something,” Johnson said.

The committee is close to securing a schedule of events, but residents may organize additional activities and apply to use the centennial logo and be affiliated with the centennial celebration.
