Hayden reader of the week: Emily Elizabeth Howe

Emily Elizabeth Howe is this summer’s first Reader of the Week for Hayden Public Library’s annual reading program. Emily, 7, is the daughter of Lynn and James Howe. The youngest of three children, she has a sister, Rose, 15, and a brother, Jimmy, 18, who is attending the University of Colorado Boulder. Emily was born in Steamboat and has lived in the Hayden area her entire life. She has a guinea pig named Coco and a betta fish named Flash. Her brother has four fish.

When asked what she wants to be when she grows up, Emily said, “A horse trainer, a vet and a scientist.” Her favorite color is blue. Her favorite food is cupcakes — especially ones from Tea & Cakes in Boulder. Emily likes movies about horses, and for fun she likes to run around outside, jump on the trampoline and have play dates with friends. She is taking horseback riding lessons and loves being around horses. Emily loves reading — she said her favorite book is “any book” — and in school she enjoys science. The family plans to go camping and swimming this summer.

When asked if she had any advice for other kids about reading, she said, “Sometimes when you walk into the library, the books whisper from the shelves — they want to tell you stories that you will love.” Emily also said that when she learned she was the Reader of the Week, she felt “a little surprised and nervous.” Congratulations, Emily!
