Hayden girls team picks up 1st win

— The Hayden High School girls basketball team got its first win of the season Friday night, and it also came up with a list of things to work on.

The Tigers beat Caprock Academy, 43-4, in the Meeker Cowboy Shootout tournament, but Coach Michelle Wilkie said the team wasn’t as sharp as it was a night before in a loss against Meeker.

“We won, but we didn’t play as well,” she said. “We came out slow. Just everything was slow. We didn’t hit a lot of shots that we needed to hit.”

The big lead gave the Tigers a chance to get deep into their bench and the scoring was very spread out.

The team plays again Saturday against Rangely to wrap up its stay at the tournament. To get a win there against a more capable opponent, Wilkie said, the team will need a better performance than it had Friday.

“We need to go out and execute,” she said. “I just hope we can do what we need to do. When they play so well then turn around and don’t play as well, it’s frustrating.”
