Hayden girls fall at West Grand

Joel Reichenberger

— It wasn’t a win, but coach Michelle Wilkie said she was able to find plenty of things for her team to be proud of Friday night in a 51-33 loss against West Grand.

“That was the best team we’ve played in a really long time,” Wilkie said. “All in all, I was really pleased. The thing I was most proud of was the way we came out after halftime. We were doing a great job.”

The Tigers fell behind early but made up ground in the second quarter and came within two points of the Mustangs in the third quarter. West Grand summoned a big push in the fourth to put the game away.

Kara Cozzens had one of her best games of the season for the Tigers, scoring 15 points. Darian Murphy added six and also played strong defense, holding West Grand’s leading scorer to 1/3 of her average.

“She did a great job,” Wilkie said. “Really, they all played well. I was proud.”
