Hayden girl released from hospital

Girl was struck by a pickup in Hayden

— An 8-year-old girl was seriously injured Friday when she was struck by a pickup while riding her bike in Hayden, police said.

The girl, whose name was not released, was attempting to turn onto East Lincoln Avenue from Maple Street when the accident occurred, Hayden Police Chief Jody Lenahan said. A truck traveling east on Lincoln struck the girl.

Lenahan said the girl was released Monday from Children’s Hospital in Denver, where she was flown Friday night.

The truck involved in the accident was driven by Cathy Reese, whose husband, Bruce Reese, also was in the vehicle, Lenahan said. The Reeses are from Craig. Lenahan said the Reeses were not at fault in the accident.

The child suffered head injuries. She was not wearing a helmet when the accident occurred, Lenahan said.

After the accident occurred, Bruce Reese allegedly was assaulted by the girl’s father, Rolan Eugene LaBlanc, 26, of Hayden, Lenahan said.

Lenahan said Bruce Reese was assisting the girl when LaBlanc reportedly approached Bruce Reese began hitting him.

Hayden police arrested LaBlanc on suspicion of third-degree assault. He was released on bond from the Routt County Jail on Monday.

Lenahan said LaBlanc was suspected of being under the influence when the assault occurred.
