Hayden football falls to Middle Park

The Hayden High School football team lost Friday night, falling 49-20 against undefeated Middle Park.

The Tigers managed to hang in the game through stretches but couldn’t stay with the Panthers as the game dragged on.

“We knew they were going to be tough,” Hayden coach Shawn Baumgartner said. “They were big up front and just pounded the football.”

Hayden’s Mark Doolin connected with Dakota Zehner for a touchdown in the first quarter, and the Tigers trailed just 14-7 into the second quarter.

Hayden’s Chad Terry again brought the game within reach when he returned a third-quarter fumble for a touchdown, making it 28-14. Middle Park ground away at the Tigers’ defense and added plenty of insurance. One final Doolin touchdown pass — this one to Jordan Ferrier — set the final score.

The loss drops the Tigers to 1-3 on the season. Hayden will play its first home game and kickoff its league schedule at 7 p.m. Friday against Paonia.
