Hayden boys notch third win

— It took big shots and a full-game effort, and in the end it was enough to get the Hayden High School boys basketball team its third win of the season. The Tigers won on the road Saturday night, beating De Beque, 55-49.

“De Beque came out and played very hard, so we battled it out late down the stretch,” Hayden coach Jody Harvey said.

Juan Carlos Valdez scored 25 points and Harvey said he was key late in the game.

Thomas Rauch scored 11 for Hayden and Keyen Camilletti had nine.

“It was good for our kids, working hard and fighting,” Harvey said. “We haven’t been able to reap the fruits of much of our labor this season, so it was nice to at least get the last one like that.”

The win left the team 3-15 with at least one more game to play. The Tigers will hit the road Feb. 24 for the district tournament.
