Hayden boys fall at West Grand
Steamboat Springs — They’re getting closer, Hayden High School boys basketball coach Jody Harvey said.
His team still isn’t quite there, and Friday it lost on the road against West Grand, 55-39. The defeat sank the Tigers to 0-11.
“It’s hard. It just seems like it’s the same results every week, but we’re really competing with all of these teams,” Harvey said.
Thomas Rauch and Carlos Valdez each scored 12 points for Hayden.
The team hung with the Mustangs early, trailing by three at halftime. An 8-0 run from West Grand opened the game up in the second half, however. Rauch and Valdez were slowed down with a triangle-and-two defense, and the team couldn’t respond.
“I keep telling the kids we need to finish a full game,” Harvey said. “We’re getting closer and closer, but we haven’t pushed it all the way to where we can have a complete game yet.”
